Hi all. Have just spent a good part of the weekend getting back into sim racing on the PS3. Some of the rust is coming off the driving, but just had a couple observations.
First, I am running with all "aids" off, against hard competition, and have the performance factors all maxed out. I use the Logitech Driving Force GT with feedback (arms get tired after long runs! The tracks are so bumpy and it transfers to the wheel a lot). And of course, as any true sim racer would, I drive exclusively in c0ckpit view.
This game is quite a bit different in the physics than NR2K3, and the AI behave a bit differently, but I can work with it. I'm going to get more comfortable on the track in seasons, the career, and testing before I go race online. Hate it when the 10 year old kids get on there and have no practice time under their belts!
1) In practice sessions and qualifying, taking off from my pit is ridiculous. Either you burn off the tires trying to get started, or it takes about 15 seconds to get "in gear" and moving. Is that just the sim?
2) I hate that you don't get to pit--you can separate the men from the boys that way. Guess I'll just have to get used to it.
3) Strength/skill of the AI. At the plate tracks, it's like they are all n00bs, even when set to "hard". They don't draft, and basially are just slow as heckfire and just get in the way--I am hoping that the online experience will be different with real drivers.
4) Setups. Seems that of all the boards I've looked at are very secretive about their setups, and while I understand that you keep your best stuff hidden, there don't seem to be a lot of good setups out there. Also, is it possible to download a file with the setup info, and then upload it to the game via online? It's tedious entering all the data manually, but I appreciate all the posted setups on here.
5) Car paint. Could use some help here. The paint booth in the game is very limited. In NR2K3, you could download a file of the completed car, and upload it to the game and it was all set. Same question as above, can a paint job be saved as a "file" and then uploaded for use (perhaps via the EASports online pages)? PS: I have looked at the tutorial and it was pretty techie...
Thanks guys, I look forward to racing with ya in the future!
